Last year the Velocureans took a trip to the cycling mecca of Girona. Eight wonderful days cycling in Catalunya and exploring the Costa Brava as well. It was a bumpy start with lost luggage but it ended up being an unforgettable cycling vacation.

The Velocurean motto EAT.DRINK.RIDE. was put to the test throughout the week, but the ultimate experience was happening upon a Michelin rated restaurant on one of our rides. An incredible mid-ride stop that epitomizes our entire existence.

We set out for a short ride that day- the well known Hincapie Loop going up and over Els Angels. It was a beautiful morning and we were recovering from the day before that took us on an eight hour day up to Cadaques for another lunch (more on that in another post). The plan was to do Els Angels and stop at Madremañya on the other side to see this classic Catalonian town. Little did we know that lunch would end up being a two hour feast.

We checked out the interior of this very small town and there were numerous "photo ops".

As we were heading out of the town we saw outdoor seating and approached to ask if we could sit down for a "snack". The woman owner was extremely pleasant but stated she was the only one working and she wasn't sure if she could fit us in without a reservation. I tried my best to convince her with my Castilian accent and we ended up getting seated.

We started with a bottle of rosé and a few appetizers. The first thing they brought appeared to be these small looking donuts. It turned out they were small glazed FOIE GROIS donuts. INCREDIBLE!

Of course we were obligated to have different cheeses, classic Jamon and Chorizo, Spanish olives and perfectly baked bread. The entire meal was fabulous. The service was outstanding. We toured the inside dining area as well as the associated hotel. It was all absolutely gorgeous.

We highly recommend visiting Madremaña and La Plaça if you make over to Girona. Probably best to call in advance. It's a great ride up and over Els Angels and you can add the second climb to go back if you like.

Hasta Luego!!
